TNCC - Untrieds #4 - Orly Halo, Kiko 394 (Olive Green)

Hello everyone,

today, I want to show you my final manicure for the untried theme. Honestly, I could continue with this theme for a year and would probably still have a couple of polishes left (even when not buying any new polish). It's crazy, I know!

To be exact, this manicure killed a total of three untried polishes, but I'll only count two, because one isn't exactly visible. This mani was inspired by a manicure I saw on Pinterest (this one). I really liked the color combination and I knew I had matching colors in my untrieds.

I chose Orly Halo, which I recently found at my local TKMaxx, and Kiko 394, another Kiko from my haul from last fall. The Kiko is still available, but it seems to be one of the soon-to-retire shades. It applied well, drying time was fast, but it didn't dry very shiny. I'm wearing three coats here, but they aren't necessary. I took my pictures after a day at work and simply applied the third to cover the hints of tipwear.

The Orly, on the other hand, was not so easy to work with. It's pretty sheer and even though it looks like you could get it opaque on its own, I didn't feel like it and decided to layer it over Kiko 617, one of the Mirror Metallics. That's the third untried, but you can't tell it's there anymore. It still took three coats of Orly to have me satisfied with the look though.

The stamp was done using the white stamping polish by essence and PUEEN 11. Honestly, I don't remember just how often I tried to get this stamp right. I wanted it centered, obviously. I gave up when the top coat on top of Halo started to wear off. At least, I got the image to transfer in one piece. I'm going to practice this. >_>"

Do you have any tips on how to center a stamping image on the nail? I'm appreciating everything!

Anyway, what do you think of this mani?

Thanks for reading!

TNCC - Untrieds #3 - Kiko 311 (Electric Pink)

Good evening everyone,

two more untried manicures to go, and here's one of them. This one was not planned, I just didn't feel like changing the base polish and started doodling on top of it, to make it 'different' from the first day.

The base is Kiko 311, a now discontinued bright pink shimmery polish. Or at least, I can't find it on the page anymore. I'm wearing two coats, but I felt that it needs three to be really opaque when worn solo. That was one reason why I added nail art... to cover up those patches. The color is pretty, but I found it was drying a bit slower than what I'm used from Kiko. So well, I don't regret buying it, but it won't be my favorite Kiko polish.

So I added some simple flowers on the second day using yellow, orange and white acrylic paint. After topcoating, I added a white half pearl to each nail while the topcoat was still wet. They wore better than expected.

Two more days of pink with flowers added, then it had to make room for untried mani #4. I really want it to be summer. xD

What do you think of the color combination pink/orange? Do you find it wearable (not necessarily limited to nails)?

TNCC - Untrieds #2 - Kiko 384 (Gentian Blue)

Hi everyone,

as mentioned yesterday, here's another manicure I did at the beginning of March. I used yet another untried, a Kiko from a large order from last fall. My inspiration for this nail art was one of my favorite skirts: A blue skirt with white polka dots and a red waistband/ribbon.

In the bottle, Kiko 384 looks just slightly darker than my skirt, but close enough. It  dries a lot darker though. It's still a pretty color, but far from my skirt. I continued anyway - I was so proud that I managed to sit down and start some nail art!

I believe those were two generous coats of Kiko 384. Application was easy as always with Kiko polishes. I don't remember much about the drying time. I continued with some white acrylic paint as the base for the red, because if wouldn't show up as brightly otherwise. This obviously is a problem, because chalky white at the tips means quick tipwear. But who cares, when you'll probably change your polish after 1-2 days...

I don't remember what kind of red I put on top. It's pretty though. The white dots, obviously made with white acrylic paint and a dotting tool. I'm not so proud of those white border lines... they looked totally straight while painting them, but later, wow, totally crooked.

Here you can tell what I mean with color in the bottle <-> color on the nail

I wore this one longer than two days. Way longer. I just couldn't get myself to paint my nails again. so instead, I repainted the one nail with the worst damage and kept wearing it for another two days. It was bright, really bright, for some reason. And I got some weird comments. Doesn't matter. I liked those nails.

What do you think? Do you find them weird too? xD

TNCC - Inspired by Art - #2

Hi everyone!

Today, I want to show you the second art inspired manicure I did for the Nail Challenge Collaborative.

(Naja...)

I have also found my inspiration on pinterest for this one. The original work is "Before Morning" by Leonid Afremov. I love the bright colors on the dark background. Also, I thought that the way it has been painted should make it rather easy to recreate. ^^;

The accent nail was painted using acrylic paints on top of black polish. It's just easier for the details. The rest of the nails were painted with polish only.

Products used:
- p2 eternal (black base)
- OPI Jade is the new Black
- Nicole by OPI Daffy Dill
- Kiko 356, 386, 389
- Catrice Nautica
- essence berry me home
- beauty uk nameless yellow polish
- acrylic paint

In general, I think this turned out ok. Sadly, the colors don't pop as much as I had hoped. I didn't want to layer too much, because I think that would have destroyed the effect somewhat. Some of the colors were actually more opaque before topcoat. The yellow for example.

Ganz stark z.B. beim Gelb.

What do you think?
Was meint ihr?

TNCC - Around the World #3 - China

Hello,

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! It's a short one for me, but I hope I'll get around to do some more nail art later!

As I wrote in my second-to-last post, I did most of the manicures for the Nail Challenge Collaborative. I'm going to post these from time to time with the according theme mentioned. So today, I want to show you the last manicure for the theme of August: Around the World. I didn't want to do a "Japan" manicure... I'm doing too many of those. So I decided on China. Close, but something else. Aside from asian food, architecture and silk, I associate pandas with China. A panda manicure it is!

Materials used:
- essence Black is back
- Kiko 626 Lawn Green
- black and white acrylic paint
- Stamping Plate

TNCC - Around the World #1 - Mexico

Hallöchen!

There's a total of four days left in this month, so I have four days to post all four manicures for The Nail Challenge Collaborative's monthly theme. This time the theme is "Around the World". I was really happy about this at first, but in the end it gave me quite the headache as I didn't want to do my stereotypical manicures... you know, another Japan inspired one for example. For this first post, I wanted to do something ethnic and ended up with a mexican pattern. I ended up simplifying it, but I liked the result.

I started with two coats of essence Hello Summer!, a bright orange creme polish. It applied very nicely. I don't remember what polish I used, but next was a stripe down the middle of the nail. Using the same orange polish, Kiko 336 and white acrylic paint, I painted the triangles on top of the stripe.

When all of that was really dry, I started my little experiment with the Born Pretty Store Nailart Pen in Black. I used that to outline the stripe and triangles. I wish it the tip was a bit smaller, but it works quite well. The black dries matte and you can easily rub it off, so topcoat is a must. Apparently, I didn't let it dry long enough... I managed to damage it a little with topcoat.

I hope you like it! :) See you next time!

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Flowers - Week 2 - Mosaic

Good morning everyone!

I wanted to show you this manicure way earlier, but a lot of things happened this week and I never got around to do it. My father was finally hospitalized this week to have his cancer surgery, only to be told a couple of hours before the actual surgery that it has been cancelled due to unforeseen emergency surgeries. It's supposed to happen next Wednesday now. Thus, not sure how the next week will go for me. I tend to be rather pessimistic... and having the late shift next week doesn't help. I can't really go see my dad because of visiting hours being identical to my shift. >_<
But for the time being... on to the manicure!

Ombre flowers. I got the idea from a tape manicure I have seen on Pinterest. I never really planned this, but since I had the idea for so long, the process had somehow already been decided before even starting. I'm not a hundred percent satisfied (because I messed it up a little with clean-up), but I liked it. I'll skip the how-to explanations this time, because I took pictures while painting my thumb and decided to include them.

Products I used for this mani include:

- Flormar M01
- light pink Color Club, unnamed
- Manhattan Sashimi Mimi
- pink Color Club, unnamed
- Kiko Apple Blossom
- Catrice Welcome to Roosywood
- Kosmetik Kosmo Binoticum
- white acrylic paint

I used those colors plus mixtures of the polishes, like light pink+Sashimi Mimi or Apple Blossom+Welcome to Roosywood, to make the ombre softer. Actually rather easy, but it looks nice, ne? If I did these again, I would do the outer lining with white polish though. I think, I wouldn't have messed it up while doing clean-up if it had been white polish. (But acrylics are so much easier to work with...)

Lastly my micro-tutorial on the process. I omited the final picture with topcoat... but I think, you get the idea.

Kiko Sugar Mat - Gradient

Hallihallo~

Today, I have an older manicure for you. A pre-nail break manicure... :(
I totally fell in love with the sparkly shades from the Kiko Sugar Mat collection and before actually getting some for myself, I had seen and loved some gradient manicures by other nail artist. The polishes seemed to blend so well! So obviously, I had to try a gradient myself. I originally wanted to get Golden Mandarin and Poppy Red, but the latter was sold out. I settled for Strawberry Pink instead and I'm not regretting it at all! Such a beautiful polish! So I did my gradient using Kiko Sugar Mat Golden Mandarin and Strawberry Pink.

I wasn't sure whether the orange and the pink would really blend, but I think it's due to the shimmer that it worked out so well. The sparkle in the sun was really awesome... <3 Anyway, I did this gradient like I usually do my "normal" gradients. I cut myself a piece of kitchen sponge about the size of my nail and moisten it a bit to prevent the sponge from sucking up all the polish. Afterwards, I apply the polish directly onto the sponge and then dab it on my nails. In this case I didn't wear any polish underneath, so I did two to three coats, until I was satisfied with the gradient. Worked perfectly well!

For some reason, I ended up taking a bazillion pictures of this gradient and it was really hard to narrow it down... I still chose way to many pictures, but this gradient felt so nice and summery... and still does! After being sleep deprived after a week of +30°C in my bedroom, we're now back to cold and rainy weather... so those are vacation nails! A vacation I'm not having for another 6 weeks. But don't you agree that the gradient looks totally different depending on which bottle I'm holding?

Thanks for reading ;)

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Neons - Week 3

Hi again!

Okay, I decided to get it over with and post my third manicure for the Nail Challenge Collaborative's June theme "neons". I'm not happy with it. I did so many neon manicures since my last neon post, but none of them wowed me exactly. So here's one that came out fine, but the base disappointed me. >.<

Wieder ziemlich simpel, aber was soll's.

Base for this polish was MNY #549, one of those weird murky taupe polishes. Application was okay for it, but it dried way darker than it looks in the bottle... and that's what destroyed this mani for me.

Anyway, on top of two coats of #549, I freehanded the triangles using Kiko 203, a white tip painter, that's surprisingly opaque. It got a fine brush that's really easy to handle. After my white triangles were dry, I picked a short striper brush and my yellow Woo neon and painted another triangle, slightly smaller than the white one. Topcoat and done. There isn't much more to say about this one.

What do you think?

Was meint ihr dazu?

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Neons - Week 1

Hello ladies~

It's already June 10th and I still haven't posted my first manicure for the new theme of the Nail Challenge Collaborative: Neons. So without further ado, here's my first neon manicure.

This manicure is not really neon... I checked under my UV light. But it's bright enough, I think. It's inspired by a design by Robin Moses, but the colors are like the opposite of what she used. Hers was rather fall colored. The pictures above were taken under my daylight lamp and the next one outside in bright sunlight.

Looks a bit different, right? Schon ein bisschen anders, oder?

The base for this one is a polish by Cynthia Rowley. I picked it up at TKMaxx in a set of three. It was cheap, but the colors were really bright and fun. I don't know the brand. The polish applied really well and dried quite fast too. Originally, it had a semi-matte finish, but that got lost since I painted on top of it. The blue is, once again, H&M U Must Have This and the white is a French polish by Kiko. Lastly, I used Kiko 617 for some accents.

I pretty much followed the steps Robin Moses explained in her video, so if you're interested, take a look. The only thing I skipped entirely was the nail foils. I tried and failed. You can see some of that on my pinky. I don't know, but my nail foils won't transfer whatever glue I try. It's really annoying. Luckily, I think the manicure is fine without the foils. :D

H&M U Must Have This | Kiko 203 | Cythia Rowley | Kiko 617
Oh, and my favorite flowers, cornflowers, started blooming around here. Sadly, they pretty much killed all of them. There's only a couple of them around this year. Last year, it was cornflower heaven for me, haha.

And that's it for today. What do you think?
Was meint ihr?

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Stamping - Omake

Hello everyone~

I hope you're having a great weekend! It's sunny today here in Germany! That really saved the weekend a little bit.

Anyway, I finished the May challenge yesterday, but I decided to do one more post for it. I don't know how many of you are accustomed with the term omake. It's Japanese and most would probably know it from manga, where it stands for some extra pages at the end of a volume. So in this post, I quickly want to show you a couple of stamping manicures I did over the past month that I didn't like enough to make them one of the four main posts.

This is Manhattan Sashimi Mimi with Winmax #4 (a pink scattered holo from Japan) sponged onto the sides. Then I stamped the star image and smeared it while trying to topcoat it. I like the base shade. I thought I would like essie Go Ginza better, but this one looks better with my skintone. I'm glad I went ahead and bought it.

This one has essence Fortune Cookie as the base, stamped with Kiko 702, one of the magnetic lacquers. I went in with some light yellow and China Glaze Riveting and painted some unnecessary stripes on the side. I shouldn't have done those... Oh well.

Hm. I forgot what polishes I used for this one. I'm guessing essie Smooth Sailing, but not sure. I only took 5 pictures, which means I was totally unimpressed at that time. But I think the image stamped really well.

Keine Ahnung was ich hierfür verwendet habe.

MNY 500A is the base for this one. A really sheer white with a pink hue. At least three coats. I tried to stamp polka dots here, but the polishes ended up being too sheer and I re-applied the colors with a dotting tool. Which was "against the rules" in my opinion. I wasn't exactly fond of it anyway... and still aren't.

Lastly, China Glaze Outta my Space stamped with white Konad polish. The halfmoons are essence Purple Cherry, a discontinued dark plum jelly, plus round gold glitters from BornPrettyStore. The holo was lost somehow... Not sure if I like Outta my Space with my skintone... hm. This was a pain to photograph because of those glitters. They kept glowing strangely. I originally wanted to post this one for the final mani, but I was really underwhelmed with my pictures in the end. It looked so much better in real life! Really!

So those are the five manis I finished and took pictures of, but didn't like enough. What do you think of them?

Now, I just finished my first neon mani, the theme for June. I just checked under my UV light... the base turned out not to be a true neon, but I think it's bright enough, haha.

Until next time! Thanks for reading~

Flowers on Kiko 339 (Cornflower)

Hi everyone,

I don't have a lot to show today, as I'm still working on my pictures. I got a couple of packages in the mail over the past 10 days... So I spent the two sunny days this week swatching and playing with colors instead of looking through my pictures and writing posts. But since it's probably raining again starting tomorrow, I'll have lots of time ;)

One of the polishes I ordered is Kiko 339 also known as Cornflower. It's a nice light blue with a slight purple tinge making it look very soft. Definitely not cornflower blue though. Or at least not the color of my local cornflowers. (I love cornflowers. In a week or so, the cornflowers will probably start blooming here - I'm so looking forward to that!) Just like most of my Kiko polishes, this one was easy to work with, leveled enough for my taste and is quite glossy on its own. This is three thin coats without topcoat.

I trage hier drei dünne Schichten ohne Topcoat.

Originally, I wanted to simply swatch this and then move on to some other polish from my order, but just when I finished painting my nails, the sun hid behind clouds for quite sometime and "forced" me to paint flowers on it while waiting for her to show herself. So the pictures above are in cloudy daylight, the ones below in sunlight. I just practised some brushstrokes here. Nothing special. But I like white on blue, so I decided to share it despite it being so simple.

This is white acrylic paint, as usual. Instead of BTGN Top Sealer, I used my selfmade Fairy Dust to seal it and add some sparkles at the same time. It doesn't show up a lot though.

What do you think of Kiko 339 - and the result of my tiny training session?

Kiko 400 - Steel Grey (Swatch)

Good morning!

While scrolling through my blog pictures folder, I noticed that I never posted my swatches of the fourth polish from the Kiko Lavish Oriental collection. I bought this one a couple of weeks later than the rest, which is probably the reason. But for consistency, here are the swatches of Kiko 400 aka Steel Grey.

I'm glad that I bought it. I wasn't so interested in this grey at first, but after seeing swatches I felt the need to buy it. Together with the beige holo, Steel Grey got the strongest holo effect out of the four. But it's not an in your face holo. I'm still waiting for my China Glaze holos... I can't wait to compare their holoness. Though, I already know that the particle size is different.

Since I tried to capture the holo effect on all the other pictures, here's one in lamp light. The holo is still there, but it's faint. I find it pretty in this 'state' too. It's a sparkly grey, quite opaque (2 coats) and its drying time is quite good. Also, topcoat doesn't dull the holo effect. I have yet to try them Lavish Oriental polishes for stamping, but I think there are better ones.

Have you got any of the Lavish Oriental Holos? What do you think of them?
Have a nice day~
