Misslyn - Dark Seduction (Swatch)

Hello everyone,

today I want to show you a quick swatch of one of my newer polishes. I never intended to buy it from just the promo pictures, but seeing it in store, this and one more polish ended up coming with me to the cashier. Today's polish is by Misslyn and has both the number 211 and the name Dark Seduction. It belongs to their current trend edition "hot glam".

Dark Seduction was not my first pick from the collection, but I think I like it the best out of the three I bought altogether. It's a dark red jelly base filled with tiny black and golden glitter. Due to the jelly qualities, the golden glitter turns to different shades of pink depending on how deep it is 'buried' in the layers of polish. I like that. Well, I like jellies... + glitter in them = love.

I'm wearing two coats without topcoat here and looking at my pictures, it could definitely use a third to make it more opaque.. In real life, it didn't look patchy around the cuticle at all and due to all the glitter there was no visible nail line either. Drying time was average, removal rather easy for a glitter. At least on me.

I'll definitely wear this again. It's a red and I like it which is rarely the case!

Thank you for reading!

The Nail Challenge Collaborative - Flowers - Week 3 - Tropical

Hi everyone!

I'm back after a little hiatus that wasn't exactly planned, but which I anticipated due to family circumstances. I wrote about it in my previous post: My father just underwent major surgery to hopefully beat the cancer he developed this past spring. It mostly went well and he might even get discharged next week, so we're all very optimistic right now. I'm lacking time though, since the hospital is in a different city and visiting there every other day is taking its toll when working full time too. But of course that's more important than posting about my nails ;) Plus, it's super hot here once again...

I finished my flower manicures though and I'll try writing some more posts in advance, so I can post something even when I'm too tired after a long day. Yeah, I don't usually do that. ^^;

Meine Blumen-Manis habe ich allerdings fertig und ich werde versuchen ein paar Posts im Voraus zu schreiben, damit ich auch nach solchen ermüdenden Tagen was zu posten habe. Jaaa, ich schreibe sonst eigentlich nichts im Voraus. ^^;

So here's a manicure I had planned to do when it was decided that the theme for July would be flowers. I did this manicure once before in 2011 following the steps explained by Robin Moses in one of her videos. So this is just a new take on it... looking almost the same, but I like it better on my current slightly longer nails. There's just more room for nail art that way!

There's not much to explain about this one. I, once again, followed the steps explained in the aforementioned video by Robin Moses, so if you're interested, I'd recommend to watch it! The base is OPI Bubble Bath followed by different shades of acrylic paints. The glitter polish is a mix of Zoya Faye, Color Club Ulterior Motive and Misslyn Las Vegas. Plus topcot, of course.

What do you think? Do you like the nail art Robin Moses does? Have you every tried recreating some?
Was meint ihr? Mögt ihr Robin Moses' Nailart? Habt ihr mal versucht eine Mani nachzumachen?

Fall into Autumn 13: Fall Flair

With this post, I'll finish yet another challenge. Time sure goes by... 13 weeks for the Fall challenge and they're over already! But I don't really feel sad, because the next challenge is just around the corner and I'm looking forward to this one as well!

So without much further do, here's theme numero #13: Fall Flair. Actually, I had no idea what fall flair is supposed to mean... I still don't. But on the challenge chart it said "your choice" in brackets and that saved me somewhat. I decided to experiment a little, and luckily, it turned out quite nicely!

Last year around this time, I got two bottles of flocking powder I intended to use on a craft project I never realised in the end. Even though flocking is nothing new, I still hadn't tried it despite having the materials at hand. With this challenge, I wanted to change this fact.

I started without any plan what I wanted to do, so I just pulled out the flocking powder, chose matching polishes from my stash: Misslyn Copper Twist (chocolate brown, imo...) and Woo 665. Don't ask me why I bought brown flocking powder. I think they only had those two colors left and they were on sale or something. But it matches fall... Anyway, I painted my nails with one coat of those two polishes and started sprinkling the flocking powder on top. It worked better than I thought! It's a messy process though. Clean-up is a bit tricky... sorry for the flocking around the cuticle area.

But in the end, I was left with flocked nails and no idea what to do next. After a while, I just started putting nail polish on top of the flocking and that actually looked nice! I used a dotting tool and tried to paint little leaf shapes. Afterwards, I added some details in matching colors, the two base colors, China Glaze Riveting and a mixture of OPI The IT-Color and Catrice Browno Mars. Yes, the same I used for yesterday's mani. I still had them on my table.

I carefully topcoated my leaves with essence BTGN Top Sealer and my dotting tool to make them a little bit more shiny and blend the colors together. I was quite satisfied with the result. It looks like the leaves are floating. The texture of the flocking underneath adds something very interesting to the overall look. Not sure if I'd liked it as much with simple polish as my base.

The flocking was weird on my nails. I'm used to matte polishes, but flocking is different... it's not in the way, but I kept touching to make sure those are my nails. Sadly, I had "tipwear" quite fast... The flocking disappeared and I was left with the base color underneath. At least, not very visible "tipwear".

What do you think about the results of my little flocking experiment? Have you tried flocking powder? What's your opinion?

Misslyn 646 "Las Vegas" Swatch

A while ago, when we had the first warm and sunny days here in Germany, I decided to swatch a few of my newly bought polishes. This is something I rarely do, so I have a lot of untrieds... Since then my pictures have been sitting on my computer, waiting to be posted. Well, today I want to put one of those polishes out of its misery.

I guess Misslyn is one of those German brands that are not that well known, even among Germans. One reason probably being the fact that you cannot buy the brand in drugstores like essence, essie and so on, but in department stores. Another might be that they are more pricey than our usual drugstore brands. Misslyn polishes are about 5€ (~6$) for a bottle of 10ml. I remember the brand being around for a long time. I used to have some of their stuff when I was getting into polish when I was about 10 years old... which was 16 years ago. They have a solid range of colors as well as a regular release of limited edition polishes.

So the polish I want to show you today is from their current core range. It has the number 646, but the bottle's label as well as their website also reveal a name: Las Vegas.

I would describe Las Vegas as a purple with loads of golden flecks as well as multicolored microglitter. The purple base is a little sheer, so the flecks and the glitter show up really well. I used two coats for my pictures.

indirect sunlight

I don't own the polishes, but from swatches I have seen, I would say that Las Vegas belongs in the same family as Orly Oui or its dupes. It's not cheaper than any of those though unless you can find it on sale somewhere.

The last two pictures were taken under my desklamp to show you the microglitter. It's not very strong, but is there. From the polish name I would have expected the microglitter to be a little bit more prominent, but I still like the polish a lot.

The formula could be better though. The polish being sheer is fine with me as I usually apply two coats anyway and I think the flecks benefit from the sheerness. What is not fine with me is the time this polish needs to dry. Okay, I didn't use a fast-drying  topcoat, because I would remove it for another swatch right after I took pictures, but I managed to smudge is very badly on my way back to my desk... hence the three finger-pictures. It dries pretty shiny though. I like that.

Misslyn polishes can be bought at department stores such as Kaufhof or Karstadt, but since a little while ago, you can also order them from douglas.de.

What do you think? Any opinions about similarities by someone who owns Orly Oui maybe?

Misslyn Royal Desire

Today's turn is a layering combo that I looked really forward to wearing... but which failed me :(

After my post aber Misslyn Queen of Hearts, I actually went to the city to get its sister polish Royal Desire. Royal Desire is just as sheer as Queen of Hearts, but from swatches I had seen earlier, I already knew that it would show its beauty layered over another polish. I chose essence Hot Stuff from the discontinued Multi Dimension XXXL series. I had received this in a box of polishes I won at ebay and hadn't used it yet.

Well, Royal Desire really is a beauty, but I will choose a different polish next time. It looks nice over Hot Stuff, but what the hell was that!? I never ever had a polish bubble this badly on me! I didn't shake the bottle, didn't go over the same spot multiple times and still, bubbles galore! It ruined my whole mani.

I prepared this mani in the early evening hours and went to bed like 4-5 hours later and I still got sheet marks! Since I know that Queen of Hearts dried rather quickly, I'm blaming the essence polish here. :(

But well, aside from the bubbles and sheet marks, you can still see that Royal Desire is a nice shade released by Misslyn which is why I'm posting these pictures nevertheless. Royal Desire is a reddish pink shifting rose pink to orange. It definitely needs a matching polish underneath, since it is very sheer. I'm glad I got it and I will wear it again... in a different combination. Maybe I'll try black next time... :D

Layering Flormar 07 and Misslyn "Queen of Hearts"

Today I have a layering experiment to show you. I'm not pleased with how the pictures turned out, but I love the result of my layering nonetheless. I only used two polishes, but I think they really compliment each other.

First is Flormar #07 from the Supershine line. It's a really beautiful coppery polish I had recently seen on another blog. I decided that I needed this too. It's quite opaque with just one coat, so maybe it works for stamping. I'll have to try that. #07 is not very streaky even though it's a metallic and it dried quite fast.

The polish I used to layer over Flormar #07 is actually my first Misslyn polish. Misslyn has been a name I recognized last year, when they returned to the drugstores. I think I bought a few things from them when I was a teenager. Misslyn was then only available in bigger department stores and not the cheapest. Last year they revised their product range and returned with a modernized display. I think bigger drugstores also feature this brand now. They have a nice nail polish range and feature a new LE every two month or so. But they are still a bit pricey.

Anyway, the polish I used for layering is from their current LE (Glam up your life) and is called Queen of Hearts. It looks very pretty in the bottle, so I gave in and bought myself a bottle. Misslyn polishes contain 10ml and cost 4,95€. Here's a quick swatch of the polish by itself.

This is two coats. I don't think it's meant to be worn alone. It is reeeeaaally sheer. I don't really know how to describe this color... Rosegold maybe? It's kind of golden and flashes pink as you can see on the swatch. Well, I had this idea that it would probably look great over Flormar #07, so I tried.

direct sunlight

indirect sunlight
Wow, this one was hard to photograph! The effect is actually pretty strong on the nail, but I couldn't capture it. Especially in sunlight, it just looked like Flormar #07 on its own. The picture in indirect sunlight gets close, but it is lacking the "glow".

Well, I decided that I would directly compare them. So I did some swatches on artificial nail tips.

Flormar - layered - Misslyn

The first is artificial light, the latter shows the rest of what used to be direct sunlight. I think it's more apparent now. I really do think those two shades compliment each other. Flormar #07 is pretty on it's own, but it's a nice choice of "underwear" for Misslyn Queen of Hearts. On its own, the Misslyn polish is sheer and somewhat pale? But it really starts to glow when layered over the beautiful copper.

I loved this manicure. <3 So glad I bought the polish. Now I'm still pondering whether to buy the other duochrome from this LE called Royal Desire. The swatches I have seen looked promising...

What do you think of my layering experiment? Do you own any Misslyn polishes and what do you think of them?
